Damn! I like those two pieces, and not just because I was the one that asked for them, either. The Tuvan Sketch is just frakkan awesome!

I do notice that your music sounds much better with headphones. More of the textural complexity is perceivable through headphones then just PC-Speakers. If anything, the more carefully I listen, the more I find to like.

Well done.

So, I'm interested in being a part of your project. The song is fantastic! Where do I send my art? Thanks.

@Josh - lol.
@Pennie - I think music style/genre is a lot like food flavor. Describe what chocolate tastes like? How exactly is the flavor of a peanut different than a hazelnut?

It's probably not a coincidence that music styles are sometimes called "flavors" and description of foods and wines often use music terms like "hints of grassy notes." (Said through clenched Thurston Howle teeth.)

Just tell people you make music with an interesting, basic rock song structure with electronica, trance, rock roots, including electric, with mixed acoustic and electric instrumentation (emphasis on varied instrumentation) containing musical, film music, & progressive rock qualities, influenced by classical, downtempo, electronica, folk, new age, rock & world music. It just flows off the tongue.

I once had a music professor who, when I asked about the definition of a music style, responded by playing on a piano. No matter how I asked, the professor couldn't articulate it in words. I was very frustrated by not being able to get an adequate verbal description that I could wrap my brain around. Do you think this is a global problem in music?

Mostly the latter. I like the lyrics, but they tend to be dramatic in a Meatloaf kind of way.

Are you worried about writing hokey lyrics or writing lyrics that others find hokey (even if you like them)?

You are so right, Luke. I'm with you in every way, except our histories in use of compression are inversely related. When I first began producing my own music, I avoided compression like the plague. Nowadays I do a smidgen of dynamics processing. The degree and type of compression depends upon the piece itself - I don't have any single rule of thumb. I may process the stems and then do no compression of the final mix. Other times I'll do both, and yet at times maybe only on the final mix.
